Child Support Determination Guides In RI and MA

Child Support Determination Guides In RI and MA

There are new Massachusetts Child Support Guidelines in effect that Keough and Sweeney can help you understand.

Here at Keough + Sweeney, we practice in both Rhode Island and Massachusetts. We have extensive experience helping parents through the child support process. In today’s digital age, there are often online resources that can help you gain information before entering a courtroom for a child support hearing.

Massachusetts

Massachusetts has set up a webpage that will allow you to use a worksheet to get an estimate of the amount the court might order before the case goes to court. The State of Massachusetts has updated the website with current 2018 guidelines (amended and in force as of June 15 2018)  and created a guide that you may use to see what documents and other information you will need to bring with you to court. This guide also discusses child support modification and deviation.

Rhode Island

The Rhode Island website lists links to guidelines that have an effective date of September 1, 2017 with amendments made in February of 2018 with revised schedules for support. The Schedule of Basic Support Obligations provides an overview of the amount that would be ordered to be paid based on monthly income. A guideline worksheet is also available. The state has also created a document that explains changes to the determination guidelines. This might be helpful if your child support was determined some time ago and you are going for a modification hearing.

These new guidelines and rules may seem like a lot, but we are here to help and answer your questions. With our extensive experience in both advising clients and in the courtroom itself, we will be with you when it comes time to determine or modify your child support obligations.
